Bathroom update

The bathroom project is progressing well. chele finished painting the doors and trim yesterday while I was at work, then hung one wall of wallpaper in the morning. When I called to say I was coming home, she was putting up the last piece.

I’m very happy we decided to replace the wallpaper in there. The new pattern that chele found is gorgeous (and it was on clearance, too!) It ties into a lot of other elements we’ve been using in the house, such as the window sheers in the master bedroom. K and L even got into the act:

After the kids went to sleep we started putting the plumbing back together. Previously there was a pedastal sink in the bathroom, so the water lines ran from the basement up through the floor. This is always a challenge to find water supply lines that are long enough. I got smart this time: two dishwasher supply lines. 60 inches long with the correct fittings on each end. There’s only one problem: the 3/8″ end didn’t fit through the holes in the floor. I puzzled and scratched my head until I remembered chele’s Dremel tool. One grinding bit later and the holes were wide enough for a spade bit (and the bathroom smelled like burning enamel, ug).

That done, in went the new vanity:

Unfortunately, the silicone sealent we had onhand was dried up, and neither of us felt like driving to Walmart to get more. With my tooth extraction the next day I didn’t feel like making a late night of it either, so the sink isn’t fully together either. I did put the tank back on the toilet, though.

I did hit a final snag today while putting the new faucet on the sink. The faucet gets attached to the sink before it is mounted to the vanity, yay for not crawling around under the vanity. However, the new faucet we purchased is wonky. The aerator isn’t mounted straight, and it doesn’t look like there’s any way to straighten it.

So, back to Lowes to exchange it.
